🍂The air is crisp, the leaves have changed, and there is a spooky excitement in the air. 🍂

Whether you’re of the witchy/whimsical sort or simply enjoy the smell of cinnamon and taste of pumpkins spice, Autumn is the favorite time of year for many of us.

The hustle and heat of Summer is behind us, and we are looking toward the dark season. Where things are cozier, more mysterious, and generally more spooky.

Many of our ancestors looked forward to Samhain (“Sowin”) as a celebration of the end of harvest and the start of the new year (instead of January 1).

If you really stop to think about it, Autumn does feel like a fresh start. Time to hole up in your cozy home and re-evaluate where you’re at, what you still want, and how you plan to get it….but later.

Samhain doesn’t ask us to do, Samhain asks us to exist and bear witness to the end of the previous cycle.

What is Samhain?

Samhain is celebrated every year on the night of October 31 through November 1. It’s no coincidence that the day coincides with modern traditions like Halloween and Day of the Dead.

But even if you don’t celebrate the traditional Wheel of the Year, don’t have Celtic ancestors, or aren’t actively practicing witchcraft, chances are you already connect with Samhain in your bones.

That’s because Samhain simply marks the end of harvest season and your ancestors (no matter where you’re from) used to live their lives according to the seasons. The food has grown and been harvested and the hard work is done. It’s time to rest.

Going deeper, Samhain also is heavily associated with death. Just like it’s time for your garden to “die”, every living thing has a cycle that ends with an end. It’s all a part of the diving plan.

Embracing the Energy of the Spooky Season

Many people believe that Samhain marks the spookiest time of the year – the time where we can more easily connect with the energy of other realms, whether it’s loved ones that have passed away or Spirits in general.

IT’S NO WONDER THAT WE CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN ON SAMHAIN.

Samhain season is the perfect time to practice tarot, shadow work, ancestor work, or any other spiritual practice.
